Feed prices up
High grain prices have pushed the cost of feed up. The price of feed for pigs has increased by 20% this year, says Ariovaldo Zani, president of Sindirações (which represents the feed sector). Poultry feed prices have risen by 15%. Because of higher prices, corn and soybean meal now account for 75% of the cost of feed production, says Zani. The pressure started in the first half of the year, with the collapse of the soybean crop in South America, and has now been intensified by the reduction in estimates for US production.
