Brazil campaigns against FMD on farms at the border with Bolivia
Cattle in the Bolivian border region in Rondônia are being vaccinated against FMD by Brazil. The intention is to create a barrier against outbreaks in the country.
The vaccination campaign in Bolivia began in 2006, involving 110 properties and about 2,700 animals. This year 335 properties have been covered and the goal is to immunize 36,000 head. The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture has provided 38,000 vaccinations. The teams go up to 100 km into Bolivia. It is known as a sanitary immunological cordon.
