Brazilian feed production down 2% in first quarter

Pressured by the slowdown in poultry and pork exports, Brazilian feed production fell by 2% in the first quarter of this year compared with the same period in 2011, to 14.9 million tons, said Sindirações, which represents the segment.

In the same comparison, the production of feed for poultry production fell by 1.1% to 7.4 million tons, while production volume for pigs fell 6.1%, to 3.7 million tons. Together, the two markets account for 70% of all feed produced in Brazil, says Sindirações. The production of feed for beef and milk cattle, in turn, increased by 1.2% and 1.1%, to 375,000 tons and 1.12 million tons, respectively.
