Soybean meal costs pressure chicken, says BRF
The Brazilian soybean harvest collapse caused by drought, in turn caused by the climate phenomenon "La Niña", is the main factor pressuring chicken meat production costs, says the director of grain, meal and oil purchasing at Brasil Foods, Messias Oliveira.
"The price of soybean meal will remain high until at least the entrance of the US soybean crop in the second half of the year, when prices should fall," said the executive.
According to Oliveira, soybean meal accounts for 16% of chicken production costs and about 25% of the total feed production cost. "On the one hand, the price of corn has helped us, and on the other hand, soybean meal has become a problem," said the director of BRF.
