Brazil achieves "insignificant" risk status for BSE
The OIE has confirmed what the Ministry of Agriculture had expected and announced, on May 23, the change in Brazil’s risk status for BSE.
Brazil is now at the highest level of approval for the disease - level 1 – moving up from "controlled" to "insignificant" risk. It is now part of a select group of 15 countries out of all the OIE members.
Although it has never had a case of the disease, the change may favor the resumption of the coveted EU tripe market, and help live animal and fresh meat on the bone exports to countries that currently veto the entry of Brazilian products.
