Feedlots in Mato Grosso expected to grow 14%
The intentions of farmers in Mato Grosso to invest in feedlot cattle have increased by 14% this year on last year, with 929,000 animals expected to be finished this way, compared with 813,000 animals in 2010, and 593,000 in 2010. Over the past three years feedlot numbers have risen by 57% in the state.
"The drought in Mato Grosso in 2010 is still being felt today, because of the lack of credit available to solve the problem," said the head of the Mato Grosso Cattle Farmers Association (Acrimat), Luciano Vacari.
The intentions for 2012 were surveyed by the Mato Grosso Agricultural Economics Institute (IMEA), interviewing 140 feedlot operators, farmers, and entrepreneurs.
