Brazil to be recognized as free of BSE, says Minister
Brazil is expected to be certified as free of BSE by the OIE this month, said the Minister of Agriculture, Mendes Ribeiro Filho, last Thursday. Although Brazil has never had a case of the disease, the OIE’s status is relevant following the USA’s confirmation of a case in April.
The minister said he will get the certificate in Paris on May 13 or 14. The OIE’s General Session is scheduled for May 20 to 25. Mendes Ribeiro will then go to China, to negotiate the licensing of more slaughterhouses in Brazil to export to that market.
