Calf of animal with BSE in the USA does not have the disease, says USDA
The result for the BSE test on a calf born to a cow with the disease in California, USA, was negative, according to the USDA. The USADA located two calves born by the cow, one stillborn.
According to the USDA, two dairy farms associated with the case have been put in quarantine. Ten feed companies are being investigated. According to studies, a mixture of bone meal, meat or feed is being linked to the disease, which can be transmitted to humans through the consumption of contaminated meat.
The investigation is being conducted by the California Department of Agriculture and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This is the fourth case of the disease in the United States and the first since 2006.
