Pilgrim's makes profit of US$ 39.6 million in Q1
After massive losses suffered in four consecutive quarters, Pilgrim's Pride, the second-largest poultry processor in the world, has posted a profit of US$ 39.6 million (or US$ 0.18 per share) for the first three months of 2012. In the same period last year, the company had recorded a loss of US$ 119.9 million.
During the period, the company controlled by JBS posted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) of US$ 101 million, compared with a loss of US$ 54.4 million a year earlier. That is the best EBITDA for the first quarter since 2007 and second only to the results obtained in 2004 and 2005. However, the company's revenue declined by 0.21% in the first quarter, to US$1.88 billion.
