Domestic production of meat is expected to grow 43% by 2021/22, says Mapa

Domestic production of meat - considering chicken, cattle and pigs - should be increased from 25.309 million tons in 2011/12 to 36.233 million tons in 2021/22, increased 43.2%, projects the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa). The General Coordinator of Strategic Planning of the Ministry, José Garcia Gasques, who presented the data in Avesui - Latin America 2012, said the chicken chain will drive this increase in production.

The projections of the Ministry indicate a breakthrough in the production of chicken meat 56.1% on the same comparison basis, from 13,028,000 tons to 20,332,000 tons. The beef production will increase 32.3%, from the current 8.947 million tons to 11.834 million tons, while the pork will have a high of 22% over the next 10 years, from 3,334,000 tons to 4,067,000 tons.
