Beef cattle producers in Paraná are investing feedlots
About 100 cattle producers in western Paraná have began to invest in feedlots. Their goal is to take advantage of market opportunities that arise with the growth of production.
Cattle raised in feedlots are ready for slaughter in just seven months. In the traditional model, they take two years to reach the ideal weight for slaughter. According to André Cozer, one of the farmers who have invested in the model, feedlot cattle get a different corn-based feed. "The feed is 80% corn grain and 20% of a ration, that is basically protein, with some additives, trace minerals and vitamins," he says.
