USA studying proposal to authorize Brazilian beef imports
With the visit of President Dilma Rousseff in April to the United States, the US will put the authorization of Brazilian beef imports to the market to public consultation. Currently, only Santa Catarina, which is free of FMD, can export to the USA. Authorization would be extended to other States that are free of FMD, but with vaccination.
Public consultation comes after risk analysis of Brazilian beef and, when implemented, will take at least 60 days. The opening of the United States to Brazilian meat would facilitate the entry of Brazilian beef to other countries, such as Japan and South Korea. These markets are very demanding in sanitary terms, but they pay well.
