Death during export: carrier responsible for accident, say Minerva and the ABEG
The Panamanian-flagged ship MV Gracia Del Mar, which in early February sailed from the port of Vila do Conde, in Barcarena, Pará, taking 5,200 live cattle to Egypt, suffered an outage in its ventilation system that caused the death of 2,750 animals. The ship could not dock with the surviving cattle. Egypt and other countries in North Africa did not allow it to dock, fearing health problems. Minerva S/A, which exported the cattle to Egypt, says it is not responsible for transportation.
