Argentine beef exports down 31% at beginning of the year
Although higher than in December, Argentine beef exports remain hampered by a very short supply of animals. According to the National Agrifood Sanitation and Quality Service (Senasa), in January, beef exports totaled 8,300 tons (Hilton and non-Hilton) - 24% up on December, but 31% down on January 2011.
The Hilton quota exports totaled 1,650 tons, the highest since May 2011. For those outside the Hilton quota, the main destination was Chile, with 1,850 tons, 26% up on January 2011.
