Cooperatives in Paraná unite to build a slaughterhouse
Castrolanda, Batavo and Capal, cooperatives in Paraná, have agreed to build a slaughterhouse for pigs in the region of Campos Gerais, budgeted at $ 100 million. In the first phase, the plant will have a capacity to slaughter 2,300 head per day and could double that in a later stage.
Work should begin this half of the year, and it is scheduled to open in the second half of 2013. "As we sell live animals, we are in a vulnerable market," said the president of Castrolanda, Frans Borg. With the slaughterhouse, the idea is to lend more security to the farmers, he said.
