Ministry of Agriculture answers call from ABCS about the sale of corn

The Brazilian Association of Pig Breeders (ABCS) has had one of its main demands met by the Ministry of Agriculture (Mapa). Decrees published in the Official Gazette have authorized the sale of government corn stocks through auctions and over-the-counter sales.

Marcelo Lopes, the president of the ABCS, had asked the Secretary of Agricultural Policy at Mapa, Caio Rocha, to increase the supply of grain through the over-the-counter sales at a meeting held in October 2011.

According to the ABCS, the average supply of grain is 12 to 15 tons per month, except in Rio Grande do Sul, where it is 27 tons per month. However, the current demand is for around 54 tons a month. This is why pig farmers are having problems.
