USDA: Brazilian chicken consumption to increase by 3% in 2012
Domestic chicken consumption is also expected to grow by only 3% in 2012. Chicken is still more affordable than pork or beef.
According to the USDA report, chicken exports will grow by 3% in 2012. This will be leveraged by sales of whole chickens. However, there are three main concerns affecting the prospects for exports: the continued overvaluation of the Brazilian currency, uncertainty surrounding the global financial crisis (especially in Europe), and issues regarding key trading partners, such as Russia.
