Beef exports up 15%
The global economic slowdown and barriers imposed by some countries on Brazilian meat exports have not been enough to stop growth on 2011 so far.
Beef exports in January were 15% up on January 2011, totaling 62,000 tons. Chicken exports were up by 4.7%, to 294,000 tons and pork exports gained 1.2%, despite the embargo by Russia, an important market for Brazil.
Prices fell by 4% for pork and chicken, while beef remained stable. The data are from Foreign Trade Office (SECEX) and include only fresh meat.
