Vietnam records second death from H5N1 in 2012
A 26-year-old woman died from the avian influenza virus H5N1 in Vietnam, on January 28. This is the second confirmed death from the disease in the country in 2012. According to the veterinary authorities, she slaughtered and ate a sick bird and lived close to infected birds.
With this case, the number of confirmed victims of the H5N1 virus in 2012 rises to seven. Besides the two cases in Vietnam, two deaths have been registered in China, two in Indonesia, and one in Cambodia.
