Fresh beef exports up 7.98%

By meat type, "fresh" topped exports with revenue of US$ 4.167 billion, up 7.98% in 2011, according Abiec. However, there was a decrease in volume of 13.76%, with 819,000 tons shipped. This accounted for 75% of total meat exports in 2011. The processed meat segment, in volume, took a 10% stake, while offal accounted for 9%, and tripe, 6%.

In terms of export revenue, fresh meat accounted for 78% of the total, processed meat 12%, and offal and tripe 5% each. By region, in volume, the Middle East and North Africa led with 32%, Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, together, accounted for 22%, Asia 19%, Latin America and the Caribbean, 11%, the European Union, 10% , and Africa, 3%.

In revenue, the Middle East and North Africa accounted for 31%, followed by Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus, which together accounted for 20%; the EU 16%, Asia 15% and Latin America and Caribbean, 12%. The main destinations by volume were: Russia (22%), Hong Kong (17%), Iran (12%), the European Union and Egypt (10% each). In terms of revenue, the main destinations were: Russia (20%), EU (16%), Hong Kong and Iran (13% each) and Egypt (8%).
