Poultry industry forecasts growth of 2% in 2012

After a year in which, despite the turbulence, Brazilian chicken exports reached record levels, the production sector is cautious and estimating an increase of 2% in 2012, both in production and exports. The president of the Brazilian Poultry Association (UBABEF), Francisco Turra, sees a period of uncertainty this year.

Avian flu affecting some Asian countries may favor Brazil’s exports, but there are concerns about increases in production costs - due to the effects of drought on corn and soybean prices in Brazil, and tax changes. "In addition to increasing costs, there are the US dollar rate and the crisis in Europe," said Turra.
