DANONE Brazil has announced a plan to double its revenues within two years. The company expects to end this year with revenues of BRL1.3 billion (USD754 million), a 10% increase on 2009. The plan is to reach BRL2.0 billion by 2012. Vladimir Pekic writes: with 35% of market share, Danone is the undisputed leader in Brazil’s yogurt market and the company is worrying less about increasing market share and focusing more on growing the sector as a whole. Yogurt consumption per capita in Brazil currently stands at 6kg per year and the company’s mission is to double this volume in the next few years. The company recently opened a new yogurt factory in Maracanaú, in the north-eastern state of Ceará, with an annual production capacity of 48 000 tonnes.
