BRAZILIAN fruit juice manufacturers are launching budget drinks for the all-important summer season. General Brands has a new powdered product named Fructos Plus targeting low-earning consumers in the north and north-east. A 20g sachet retails for around BRL0.42 (US$0.25) and makes two litres of drink, while the company's own premium Camp brand costs BRL0.59 and gives one litre. Rival producer Comary has announced a similar cost-based strategy to expand its market presence among consumers in the richest A and B consumer groups. Comary will launch four new competitively-priced fruit juice and carbonated drinks.
