Cashew re-organisationThis article was originally published in Foodnews
GHANA's Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MOFA) is organising groups to enter into selling and buying arrangements with cashew processors in a bid to increase prices for cashew farmers. The MOFA is also undertaking radio extension programmes to train farmers and improve the yields and quality of raw cashew nuts. Alongside this, the MOFA, through the cashew development project, is circulating a cashew buyer's directory to all district agricultural officers and producer associations to inform them about buyers in their vicinity. It is also collaborating with the Department of Co-operatives to organise cashew farmers into district cashew producers' associations, which would eventually come together to form a National Cashew Producer Association, expected to be in place before the end of 2009.
