Growers demand sky-high lemon pricesThis article was originally published in Foodnews
LEMON processors in Spain are facing serious difficulties due to skyhigh prices for raw material. Even though the crop is looking good, especially considering the dramatic shortage in 2007/08, there seems to be a strong tension between the farmers and the industry in negotiating prices, writes Silvia Antonioli. "The situation is much worse than it was a month ago. We have lemons this year, but the price is just too high. Negotiations are starting and growers now require at least €0.10/kg for raw material, which is way too expensive for the industry, " a source told FOODNEWS. As a result, it is yet to be seen if the industry will be able to secure the necessary raw material supply.
