Czech dairies bought 609.2 million litres of milk in the second quarter of 2008, a fall of 0.7% on the year before, the Czech Statistics Office (CSU) has revealed. Milk and dairy products exports grew by 0.7% in annual terms, but imports fell by 9.9% from March 1 to May 31, 2008. Up to 63% of milk exports went to Germany. 49% of imported milk came from Slovakia, 26% from Germany and 17% from Poland. Figures show the average wholesale price for milk rose by 18.3% year-on-year in the period.
