The yen and the dollar weakened against higher-yielding currencies on Thursday. The yen eased back against the dollar in Far East trading after making gains on Wednesday. An advance in the Nikkei index prompted some light selling of the Japanese currency. The greenback had struck a six-month high versus the yen on Monday, at $1 = ¥101.45, when the euro also reached a six-month high at €1 = ¥137.42.
