Waikato milk production down 20% as drought bites

Milk production in New Zealand's key Waikato province, which is suffering its worst drought in 30 years, is down 20% this season, according to local Federated Farmers' president Stewart Wadey. That means a drop of NZ$140 000 (€74 846) in income for the average farmer, based on Fonterra's forecast of $6.90/kilogram of milksolids for the season ending May 31, he told Radio New Zealand.
