Analysts warn that Ukraine winter crops remain under threat

SNOW cover in Ukraine has reduced the threat of plants being killed by frost but increased the chance of fungal diseases that could reduce this year's harvest significantly, agricultural analysts said today. Consultancy UkrAgroConsult stated: "The abnormally warm weather badly damaged most winter crops through disease. If heavily infected areas are not treated with fungicides in spring the crop shortage may be 10% to 15%, even up to 25% in some areas."
