Sudan Red dye is found in another consignment of Indian chilli powder

This article was originally published in The Public Ledger

THE problem of adulteration of Indian chilli powder with the carcinogenic dye Sudan Red does not appear to have gone away. A consignment of 1,500kg of chilli powder adulterated with the banned chemical dye was confiscated from a warehouse in Thiruvananthapuram's World Market on January 19, following a tip-off, according to local media. The chilli powder was sent to the Public Health Laboratory for further tests.
