AMYRIS Biotechnologies has signed agreements with Brazilian ethanol makers Cosan, Bunge and Acucar Guarani to produce cane-based speciality chemicals and diesel. Amyris uses microorganisms to turn juice extracted from crushing cane into a biodiesel similar to the mineral-based fossil fuel. It will invest $200m to use up to 12m tonnes of cane at the three mills to produce 100m litres of diesel equivalent.
