VIETNAM has won contracts to export 6.45m tonnes of rice so far this year, a 55% rise year-on-year, said the Vietnam Food Association (VFA). This includes 350,000 tonnes to be loaded in 2010. It puts Vietnam on track to reach record sales this year of up to 6.2m tonnes. The VFA said stocks at the end of October were 1.74m tonnes, sufficient to cover the loading demand for the Philippines by early next year, and local consumption.
