Rise in EU sugar beet

EUROPEAN sugar beet production is expected to edge up in 2009/10 to 24.7m tonnes, from 24.4m tonnes in 2008/09, analyst FO Licht said on Monday. Licht forecast a rise in output in the EU to 16m tonnes from 14.9m tonnes, partly offset by a drop in production in Russia to 3.3m tonnes from 3.9m tonnes and in Ukraine to 1.6m tonnes from 1.7m tonnes.
