THE Ethiopia Commodity Exchange is developing a system which will allow farmers to take loans based on the inventories they hold with the bourse. Warehouse receipts will be used for loan guarantees in the proposal that is to be tabled to the board of directors. The idea is to help grassroots players in the grain trade and other stakeholders who cannot access loans from financial institutions due to a lack of collateral.
