SINCE the record $13 a bushel that was traded on the Chicago futures markets in February, soft milling wheat's value has been more than halved by an ever-expanding, record world crop and a speculative exodus from commodities. Despite earlier concerns about quality, even premium hard bread wheat is now cheaper than a year ago, if about 50% dearer than in October 2006.
