THE Minneapolis Grain Exchange (MGEX) has exceeded the previous all-time record for electronic volume. Following the close of trading on October 24, electronic volume totalled 51,854 contracts breaking the previous record of 50,755 contracts set in August 2007. In addition to growing electronic volume, the exchange's overall October volume hit a record 175,002 contracts, which is 29% above the previous October record of 135,336 contracts set in 2006. Open interest at the MGEX continues to be strong as well with the top 20 open interest days occurring since September 26, 2007.
