KENYA produced 26m 90kg bags of maize in 2008 against a target of 34m bags, president Mwai Kibaki said.He added that the government would import 40% of the country's fertiliser needs, worth Ksh6.2bn ($74.28m), in order to provide cheaper inputs for farmers. A subsidised 50kg bag of fertiliser would cost between Ksh1,650 and Ksh2,500, against Ksh6,000 normally.
