Chestnut output risesThis article was originally published in Foodnews
CHESTNUT production in Italy is forecast to reach 45 million kg this year, despite earlier predictions that output would drop by 10%. The figure, released by Coldiretti, makes Italy the top producer in Europe and the fourth-biggest in the world, behind China, South Korea and Turkey, the agricultural association said. Quality was high and prices stable, it added. One-third of Italy's chestnut production comes from Campania, in the south, while other growing regions include Tuscany, Lazio, Calabria and Piemonte.
