FRIESLANDCAMPINA Vietnam, a subsidiary of the global dairy company FrieslandCampina, has halted the production of Dutch Lady Vivinal GOS milk in Vietnam, following concerns of possible allergic reactions among children. The Vietnam Food Administration (VFA), the country's National Institute of Nutrition, and the Ho Chi Minh City-based Institute of Hygiene and Public Health have taken milk samples for epidemiologic testing. Jan Bles, managing director for the Vietnamese milk firm, said that milk samples sent to the European TNO Laboratory had shown that Vivinal GOS contained no common allergens. Since October 2009, 12 children have been hospitalised with allergic symptoms, supposedly developed after ingesting Vivinal GOS milk.
