GRODNO Cannery, one of Belarus' major producers of canned fruits, vegetables, berries, juice and purées, doubled its output in January-October 2009. Grodno produced 6.7 million standard cans of fruit and vegetable preserves, including pickles, tomatoes and green beans, over half of which are sold in Russia. Grodno earned some BYR6.0 billion (US$2.1 million), up 93.8% compared with the same period last year. Exports in dollar terms rose by almost one-third. At present, the company is producing apple juice and purée. Director Stanislav Greshchik attributes the company's success to an upgrade in 2007, when modern processing equipment was fitted. It now has an annual capacity of 13.5 million standard cans.
