Aluminium plant planned

This article was originally published in Foodnews

DAIWA Can Company, Japan's largest can maker, is planning to construct an aluminium packaging plant in Russia, according to Russian media reports. The location of the new plant has not yet been decided, with several options on the table, according to Daiwa's chief executive, Hirohisa Yamaguchi. According to Russian analysts, the new plant will probably be constructed in the Urals, in particular in the Sverdlovsk region where similar facilities already exist. At present, the demand for products in aluminium containers in Russia is significantly lower than in developed countries so, according to the Japanese company, there is great potential for development. However, a reported downturn has caused UK can maker, Rexam, to close one facility in the country ( FOODNEWS 16 October).
