Large drop in hazelnut crop predicted

FORECASTS for the 2009 hazelnut harvest in Tarragona, Spain are around 9 400 tonnes (in-shell), a fall of 59% compared with last season, according to provisional data and in line with the latest figures published by the Catalan Department of Agriculture, when 22 780 tonnes were harvested. The forecasted yield for good quality kernels is 4 418 tonnes.
