Shrimp farming expandsThis article was originally published in Foodnews
THE National Prawn Company (NCP), a Saudi Arabian-based shrimp farming company formed in 1981, is growing its current holding of 10 farms spanning 10ha each. These currently produce 13 500 tonnes of white shrimp. Now, NCP is expanding its farming operations with a US$250 million investment that will add 15 more similar farms. This will bring total production to 45 000 tonnes of white shrimp, of which they expect to sell 25% in the region and the remainder will presumably be exported. This coincides with NCP opening a sales office and a new coldstore in Dubai, to serve the Gulf market. NCP also plans to launch new retail products in modified atmosphere packaging.
