Afghan fruit juice plant

This article was originally published in Foodnews

A JUICE factory has opened in Kabul, Afghanistan. The Omaid Bahar Fruit Processing Company plant is expected to process 5 000 tonnes of fruit by the end of the year, and to handle 25 000 tonnes in 2010. Afghanistan's agriculture ministry said the US$11.0 million plant will provide jobs for hundreds of people. The factory plans to buy fruit (mainly pomegranates but also apples, melons, peaches and apricots) from 50 000 local farmers, the ministry added. It is negotiating for orders for finished products.
