Canned Mirabelle plums

This article was originally published in Foodnews

GALICIAN fruit and vegetable co-operative, Hortoflor, is to continue diversifying its production in order to offer its growers more choice. The company has just seen its harvest of brand new canned Mirabelle plums put onto the market. The plums were harvested this summer, after planting more than 1 000 trees five years ago, in the O Ribeiro and Monterrei regions. The Marrón Glacé SL company is canning and putting plums in syrup. President of Hortoflor, Carlo Gómez, said: "Everything is turning out well and I think we will have a big output, but we will have to wait for a couple of years because it's a tree that takes time to bear fruit. We need to enter the market now, though, so that we can diversify even more".
