Soft drinks giant finedThis article was originally published in Foodnews
THE Dutch competition watchdog, the NMa, has fined the giant soft drinks manufacturer, Refresco, €468 000 for submitting false information regarding its takeover of the Dutch firm, Schiffers, last year and undermining its authority and effectiveness. The NMa said in a statement that it approved the takeover based on production data supplied by Refresco on both companies but this information was later found to be incorrect and incomplete. Specifically, Refresco said its existing production capacity was "substantially" lower than it actually was. The NMa said the fine imposed was slightly over the maximum penalty allowed, given the seriousness of the offence and its size. Refresco may lodge an objection against the fine, according to press reports.
