Plant near completionThis article was originally published in Foodnews
CHICKEN of the Sea is getting ready to employ at least 200 people for its tuna processing plant in Lyons, Georgia, the US. More jobs may be expected as suppliers, such as can makers and labellers, move closer to the plant. The company is remodelling a once-vacant factory to start its operation in Georgia, saving 9-12 months of construction. The only construction the company needs is a 16 000 sq.ft freezer, which it will keep, moisture-free, at 0°F (-18°C). Since the announcement of the facility (FOODNEWS 7 May), contractors have been digging up the floor to run water and gas lines throughout the 220 000 sq.ft plant. Chicken of the Sea hopes to have gas lines completed and its boiler in operation by August. Processing will begin on 1 October.
