Frozen purchases decline

ITALIAN households' purchases of fruit and vegetables in the first four months of 2009 amounted to over €4.3 billion in value (+1.8% over 2008), of which €263.5 million was for frozen fruit and vegetables, according to the first four-month report, Observatory on Fruit and Vegetable Consumption of Italian Households, written by GFK-Eurisko. Italian purchases of frozen fruits and vegetables amounted to 87 240 tonnes, a fall of 1.2% compared with the 88 270 tonnes in the same period in 2008. The number of purchasing households has risen, reaching 19.2 million (+5%), while the average purchase value fell by 6.4%, despite an average price of €3.03 per kg compared with €3.04/kg in 2008.
