THE 2009 California almond objective measurement report, released 30 June, forecast the upcoming crop at 1.35 billion lbs. This forecast, based on 710 000 bearing acres, is down 7% from the May subjective forecast of 1.45 billion meat lbs, and down 11% from this year's projected crop to date figure of 1.61 billion lbs. The Nonpareil 2009 production is forecast at 450 million lbs, down 26% from the 2008 crop receipts to date of 522 million lbs. The 2009 crop is reported to be in good condition, although it looks to be two weeks behind.
