Poor macadamia outlookThis article was originally published in Foodnews
PRICES for macadamia nuts continue to spiral upwards with further bad news surrounding the upcoming crop in Australia and global stocks running very low. "The market is currently going crazy due to continuous demand, especially for early positions, coinciding with disappointing news from the main origins, Australia and South Africa," said a report from a Dutch market trader. Industry rumours say that the Australian crop may be as low as 32 000 tonnes. "It is already causing difficulties for suppliers to fulfil the early shipments," the report states. "It is now the question whether they will be able to fulfil the later positions due to a reduction in raw material being brought to the factories. It is a very difficult situation and prices will remain firm and probably go even firmer."
